Hexagons and how to make a design with them, is the theme for at Handwerkbeurs in Zwolle.

We have room for you at the workshops, see here.

You will start with the traditional English design. Yellow hexagon arounded with reds and inclosed with bachground fabrics.

The next step is making a little landscape.

What about using a picture of Keith Haring to make your design? Will you make funny people with you hexagons, a Norvegian knitting pattern or get inspired with a knitting pattern from Kaffe Fassett?

New Sampler quilt for course in Quiltshop 100 rozen

January 14 was the first lesson of making the Sampler Medallion quilt in 2012. During our trip in Australia we experienced the possibilities of the medallion quilt. So are we happy to have this type of quilt for the sampler in the course for beginning quilters? We took some books and Bea made a pattern. The first quilt was OK, yet we missed what we call the 'wouw' effect. Henk tried same pattern, other fabric. Sampler the Second was born. Than we changed the pattern a bit. The block in the middle is easier to make and more attractive too.

So I like to present to you the first block of Sampler the Third. It is a nine patch block. four straight blocks, four blocks with three triangles and one diamond block in the center.

Also the second picture is made by Bahar Madani during the introduction at the start of the course and showing Field of Dreams a Sarah Fielke Dolly quilt.

At Tuesday morning February 14 the second course for beginners is planned. Maybe you like to make Sampler the Third with Bea?

The needle case has a Lighthouse of porcelane at the front and a lighthouse of fabric at the back. Behind the boats inside is room for yarn.

Litle Teapots quilt

Since two months the Cottage Pot at the back of the shop is renamed into The Hollandse Pot.

All ornaments are white and blue like Delft porcelane. You will find here the little Teapots quilt.

Nikki Tervi Designs

Nikki Tervo paints porcelane buttons. During our visit to Australia she showed us her workshop. And her buttons taste like having more.

Quiltshop 100 rozen sells the buttons shown at the blue woolfelt.

The first little quilt in store is made with 3 buttons. Two other buttons were painted as a test by Jeltje at Nikki's workshop.
The next one a needle case has the lighthouse on top of it. I will show you these two results in the next blog.

Just before the show in Ste Marie aux Mines we got the translation of the Japanese Bag pattern in French. And yes, we have a lot of kits ready for France.

Thanks to the French family of Emmy and Edward and the helpful nabour of Rika Quiltshop 100 rozen can deliver the first kits with explanation in French.

Monday 12 september till wednesday we are in Leiden. The next day on thursday we arrive inFrance, Ste Marie aux Mines.

Kaffe Fassett Quilts in Sweden, Sunlight in the Forest, in Sydney

Quiltsmith is located in Annandale, Sydney. During our first visit to this shop, with Sarah Fielke, we bought The Kaffe Fassett Quilts in Sweden book.
The quilts in this book are again gorgious. The last day before we left for Hobart, Tasmania, we went to Quiltsmith again.

And yes, there was the most beautiful quilt Sunlight in the Forest Quilt from Quilts in Sweden hanging in front of us. How could we miss the quilt the first time? Too busy talking?

Nope, during our first visit Quiltsmith had another quilt on the spotlights. See picture below.

Faeries in My Garden, so beautiful

At wednesday after a long drive we found a small path towards the backgarden of Lesley Mc Connell. The shop is called Faeries in my Garden. Don't know how to say it.. but it was fabulous what we saw.

The pattern of The Gentle Seamstress is in our luggage and also some fat quarters from Lesleys Store. During our flights I kept on stitching and hoop to show you the first Gentle Seamstress example at the Aussie Trunk show at 7 september at 19:30 hours p.m.

Yes we had a precious time in the quiltshop 'Precious Time'. Liza Zimmerman owns the shop and she gave us room to make pictures. Also Lorna showed her finished top 'Bordered Diamonds' made from Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

Do you like the quilt at the second photo? We will bring the pattern with us.

Magda had fun buying fabrics and I got some Cabbage Patch Green from Liza's own stack. Thank you Liza, very generous for you.

At Abby Lane, an old church turned into a Country Craft Shop, we found doyllies reused to make a little dress.

After a coffee and of course tasting some cheesecakes we went on to The Quilters Angel.

The Quilters Angel is situated at paddock with others nice shops.

We made pictures of the beautiful veranda of The Quilters Angels and had a chat with Marion Marshall,proprietor.

The bottom of the Japanese bag

Now and then our customers need more info to finish a kit. These instructions are for the closing of the Janapese bag. First quilt the bag staying 2 cm away from the seam allowance. Than proceed here.

Put the bag in front of you at the table folding the points above the other two points. (See pictures left and right.)

Than pin the seam allowances of almost all layers except the top one together. Fold back the last seem allowance. (See picture on the left.)

Stitch two seams and check the seams. It should look like the picture on the right of this text.

On the pictures below the bag is photographed from the bottom (inside out). The two horizontal seams are the ones we just stitched.

Now comes the long seam. It goes from the bottom towards the top of the bag in a diagonal direction. Pin this long seam, again without the top layer, and stitch it.

Seam the top layer by hand so you can hide it all. Job done.

This spring we had two Baltimore à la Kim McLean groups. The pictures below are from the quilt by Anja. She did the basting of her quilt together with Kety at QUIP day.

In August and September we start with three brand new groups. If you love this type of quilt as much as we do, you will get even more enthusiastic during the course. You will learn four techniques for applique: the old way, the easy way, a new way and the strip way.
The original quilt is 2x2 meters. If you prefer to make a little quilt, this pattern is also beautiful as a quilt of 0,7x0,7 meter or 1x1 meter. Want to be one of the participants in autumn? Click here.

This beauty is really huge! The size is 2 x 3 meters. We call this in Dutch a 'joekel van een quilt'. To sandwich this one you really need space. So Hanny did this with us in the shop.

If you have a big one to sandwich, please contact us for help or hire the sticks to do this at home.

On Saturday the 18th of June, Quilt in Public Day, you can see demonstrations of sandwiching with a group. To sandwich your quilt in a group you need some roles. These are the roles to sandwich in a group:

Steering lady/gent distributing the roles, guiding during the process
Yarn distributing lady/gent
Two or three pairs of threading ladies/gents
Catering lady/gent for having a break now and then.

100 rozen picks up the quilting thread again

The Roses quilt with Japanese blocks remains a challenge. Not for the Japanese puzzle. We fixed that a long time ago. Our challenge is in the quilting. We started to sew with the machine. At the backside we used water soluble yarn, so the quilt can be shown now and later on we can solve the machine stitching.

We prefer to quilt the Roses quilt by hand. This quilt contains a lot of our rose fabrics collection. That is why Magda and Jeltje started to hand quilt, block by block. After four blocks it stagnated. And of course, as a customer told me, this quilt is not yet good enough for showing in the shop.

So after clearing up the garden and buying some plants, the garden is ready to have us for quilting.

Hereby we also declare the garden open for our Open Atelier customers.

Amazing what you can do together in so little time.

Quilt exhibition and quilt market in Cannenburgh, Vaassen

The cellar was cool today. At 17:00 hours we left the cellar and found out is was 34 degreed Celcius. Felt like leaving a plane in Ghana. than we realized it was far to hot to visit Vaassen for a lot of quilters. Sunday it will be better with around 24 degrees.

Of course we hope to see you on sunday 5 june in Vaassen, kasteel Cannenburgh, or with QUIP Quilt in Public day at saturday 18 june.

On Quip day one of the Baltimore groups will give a demonstration of sandwiching a quilt. They will do this together like it is described in one of Jennifer Chiaverini best-selling Elm Creek Quilts novels.

Golf and Quilt top for the Naked Bed Challenge ...

At June 1st, the top of the 'Golf and Quilt'-quilt for the Naked Bed Challenge had to be finished. Yet some appliqués still need to be added. For instance a few puts and balls are missing.
I think it will suit the occasion to do a bit of appliqué at the exhibition in Kasteel Cannenburgh in Vaassen (between Apeldoorn and Zwolle). We hope to meet you in the cellar of the castle.

Liesbeth from Frederiksoord organized the quilt exhibition and the area for the quiltshops. Thank you, Liesbeth, it all looks beautiful in Kasteel Cannenburgh in Vaassen.

Using triangle paper

Have you ever used triangle paper before?
Lay one fabric with the right side up in front of you.
Lay another fabric on top of it with the right side down.
Lay triangle paper on top of them. Stitch the triangles by following the stitching lines.

After stitching, you cut the triangles.

The result is a bunch of perfect squares to make a quilt, a border or a quilting bag.

During the Brocante at 28 May we give away the triangle paper to customers for free.

In December 2010 Quiltshop 100 Rozen held the first clearance in three years. And now we already have the second one; 40 bolts on the upper shelf for 5 euro per meter, 40 bolts in the middle for 7 euro per meter and this time also a row 40 bolts for 10 euro per meter.
These fabrics not only are great for quilt backings, think of all the earthy colors you can use for a classic triangle quilt. We have triangle paper to try for free.

Not only in the shop but also at the webshop you are invited to shop until you drop.

Japanese puzzle quilt by Joke is fabulous

Joke did it! She quilted her Japanese puzzle quilt and yesterday she came to the shop for the bias fabric. Her quilt is fabulous. This is only a picture of it; you should see it in real live.
As you can see Joke chose a lot of colors, but kept the greens out. There is one exception. Have a look in the middle at the third block from left. These white roses with a green background are catching my eyes. So are the black blocks.

Joke, congratulations with your first quilt after a long pause. Joke also picked up the quilting thread again.

What to make for the naked bed?

Thanks to the newly arrived Sarah Fielke fabrics there is a dilemma. I am at a point to choose fabrics for sashings and border. The blocks are soft colored Kaffe Fassett and Philip Jacobs fabrics.

And here comes the dilemma. Do I take more color with Kaffe's fabrics or shall I mix with the soft colored fabrics of Sarah Fielke?

100 Rozen QUIP day quilt "Le Bonheur" is ready for posterize

After a beautiful Montmartre day at 7 May, it is time to get you all enthusiastic about QUILT in Public Day. So we need pictures, postcards, posters and fabric kits.

Walstraat 107 is turned into a nice little quilt. It has a hand quilted border and did you see the boats in the windows? We measured the amount of fabric needed to make this lovely quilt. The pattern and fabric kit will be available from 18 June.
Dirk, the son of Carlies, volunteered to draw the pattern for the first 'QUIP Walstraat' kit. Thanks Dirk, I am sure you make a lot of women happy to be able to make the 'Walstraat 107, Le Bonheur' quilt themselves.

Our neighbors John and Petra did a lot of styling to their home. Their home is their castle with lots of nautical elements.

Walstraat 107, 7411 GP, Deventer, is the first Walstraat house in a series. The houses will all be made with paperpiecing technique and hand-stitchery. The picture at the left is a sneak preview. The quilt will be the poster for QUIP day at 18 June.

At the right, hope you recognize the house of John and Petra.

The kit to make this quilt will be available from 18 June at QUIP day.

Anja W. took bright lovely fabrics. It almost smells like 'Printemps', 'Lente' or Spring. The pictures above are from her Baltimore a la Kim McLean.

On the left you see the growing Baltimore of Anja V. She uses the fabrics of the Kaffe Fassett Group. As branches she took lilac. A surpising change in the design, which works out very well. It brings all lilacs and purples to the front. That way Anja V. creates her own style in this world famous Kim McLean Baltimore.

Kety enjoyed herself with a text print. You can find her signature in the background fabric of a dark green checker print on an off-white basis.

The guts of this group is fabulous. It is a joy to be with these ladies in the course.

Yesterday we got the painfull news that the daughter of Magda died. We try to help and be with her and her other daughter when needed. Therefore we cannot guarantee our opening hours in the coming weeks.

Last week disappeared as snow in the summer. We met a lot of nice quilters at the Brabant hallen in Den Bosch. We taught the watercolor with roses at Saturday and Sunday all day. Magda spoke with a lot of our dear customers specially from the southern part of our country.

Also this fair felt like having a party.

And at the end of the fair Henk, Roel, Magda and me got all the stuff packed in the van in 60 minutes, including waiting time to get the van into the building.
It is a pity we cannot show you this loading. Maybe next time we'll record it and put it on youtube.

Balitmore group 1 started to create their own bee at the Thursdays between the Baltimore sessions. Marjan offered to teach how to make a needle booklet.

Wij zijn 4 vrouwen die vol enthousiasme aan de Baltimore cursus zijn begonnen 4 weken geleden. Inmiddels zijn wij 4 technieken, en evenzoveel frustraties verder. Maar ons enthousiasme is onverminderd. Allemaal hebben we inmiddels een prachtig hart. We weten alles van lobjes, blaadjes en steeltjes. De kleuren maken ons zeer vrolijk. Wij genieten van de vaart op het ene moment om te werken aan onze baltimore en de rust tijdens het appliceren.

3D Style room at 'Creatieve Hobby en Handwerkdagen' in Den Bosch, NL

In Den Bosch, The Netherlands, at Friday 18 March till Sunday 20 March we are at the fair 'Creatieve Hobby en Handwerkdagen'.

At the moment we are sketching this fair spot of 3 x 10 meters. Ben and Kitty Strik will offer the interior materials to decorate a 3 dimensional style room with Kaffe Fassett quilts, knitwear and porcelain. Also two decorators Max and Marjorie Scheeper, will arrange the materials and create a beautiful view for the visitors of the fair. The 3D style room will be based on the video at http://www.kaffefassett.com/Biography.html and the Book Welcome Home Kaffe Fassett.

The picture at the right is taken at Walstraat 28 and 55 in Ben and Kitty's shop this weekend. The quilt at the pictures is the Chintz quilt from Quilts in de Bloementuin and is available as kit.

Workshop Watercolor in Groot Stokkert, Wapenveld

Thanks to Vera we met lots of ladies in Groot Stokkert, Wapenveld. During their holidays they booked Quiltshop 100 Rozen for the Workshop Watercolor with roses.

After laying the fabric puzzles, the pins came through. Almost all kits had the same fabric and the results differ a lot, because of the choices made during the process.

We wish all ladies nice holidays and yes, we'd like to come back to them next year with a new challenge .

The making of a Dolly quilt

Sarah Fielke told us about her new book today. It will contain small quilts and big quilts. Why? Sarah tries things out in a small dolly quilt for instance techniques, colors and shapes. And after trying out Sarah is ready to go for a big one. That is how her new book is structured. And I like this idea of hers.

Today we are preparing the kits for Sarah Fielkes workshop on 22 Januari 2011 at Quiltshop 100 Rozen in Deventer.

We started by making an example. Of course with a rose in the middle. The kits come in different colors. So if you don't like red and green, we have also other combinations. Sarah can tell you all about the effects of colors in a quilt.

Japanese bag on Quilt Smart

Monique is making a Japanese bag with QuiltSmart. We placed this photos for her mother because she has the same kit to make.

Magda is finishing her S-Block quilt before sunday 9 January when we have the show and tell in the shop. Did you know? Roel is our professional cook and he will arrange the lunch at the reunion of the Kaffe Fassett Masterclasses.

And I am struggling with the next part of Harts and Flowers. see picture below. In case it looks strange you need to know there are two left handed ladies in the room today.

Time to look over the closed year 2010 ..

Not one year was having that impact in my live as 2010. Henk and Roel fixed a mega job to renovate both the new shop and our new home above the shop. The shop moved in May three doors ahead in the same street Walstraat 88. It is a world of difference. However, again within three months we have to little shelfs for all the new Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

And then in July Kaffe and Brandon came for masterclasses and Lecture. Our world went upsite down. All Kaffe addicts have found us in Deventer.

Untill December we had no 'home'. We lived this year in Ermelo, Uddel and with a girl friend and last but not least at the topfloor of our new home.
In October my dear mum Ruth passed away. Her coffin was under her linen Aussie quilt with mango's and kangeroos.

At 3 December the movers were there to deliver over 60 boxes. Boxes are all unpacked and disappeared. So we had room for Christmas with all children and grand children. It became a beautiful cook and dine party.
The Hawaiian Lei Dolly quilt is ready now and we are realy landed in our new home.

And now 2011 begins ...

After the third inventarisation in our shop history we go quilting again.

Yesterday we booked Sarah Fielke, author of two translated books, for a workshop in our shop. She is also the spirit behind the Dolly quilts. Yes Sarah, we had a lot of snow in Deventer and we love to meet you.

Tijd voor een terugblik op 2010

En dan kijk ik nu even achteruit naar het afgesloten jaar. Er is nog nooit zo veel gebeurd in enig ander jaar in mijn leven. Henk en Roel klaarden een mega klus in renovatie.

De winkel verhuisde in mei naar Walstraat 88. Maar drie deuren verder en toch een wereld van verschil. Hoewel, na drie maanden kwamen we alweer kasten te kort voor alle Kaffe Fassett Group stoffen.

Toen kwamen Kaffe en Brandon langs en stond de winkel echt op zijn kop. De Kaffe fans hebben ons gevonden in Deventer.

En al die tijd woonden we nog niet echt, na Ermelo kwam Uddel en toen logeren in Deventer bij een vriendin. In september op zolder wonen. Op 15 oktober overleed mijn moeder en op 3 december stond de verhuiswagen voor de deur.

De dozen waren met de Kerst uitgepakt of afgevoerd. Op 25 december werd de kamer in kersttooi gehuld. Op tweede Kerstdag was het hier een groot kook- en smulfeest met alle kinderen en kleinkinderen om ons heen. En dat was weer helemaal thuis.

En dan begint 2011 ...

Vanochtend is de derde inventarisatie afgerond. We zijn weer klaar voor het nieuwe jaar.

Het laatste nieuws, sinds vandaag bekend, Sarah Fielke op 22 januari in Quiltshop 100 Rozen te Deventer.

Welke applicatie techniek gebruik je voor ....

In the Baltimore quilt Hartjes en Bloemen van Kim McLean you can use diffent applique techniqus. Chose them yourself of get here a bit of help.

Yesterday i made the flowered hart of Stencil Scarlet with the lavender blue border on a background of Kaffe Fassetts Spots Purple. I used freezer paper this time to get the right shape.

Applique looks a hell lot of work, but after making Sarah Fielkes Dolly Quilt Hawaiian Lei with linen, the applique of the first two piece is done in two hours.

Tonight I start with the next job on this project: The Spots purple border will be next to applique with a new technique.

De eerste Dickens Festijn dag is achter de rug ..

Om half tien stapten de eerste klanten binnen. Er ging weer een Kim McLean Hartjes en Bloemen stofpakket de winkel uit, zie eerdere blog. Verder Een Yellow Panels en een Pijlveren pakket via de webshop.

En .. Tjeerd koos een prachtige serie stoffen uit voor een groen blauwe quilt. We hebben er een foto van gemaakt, stroken gesneden en dit pakket ligt nu klaar om op te halen.

Tja, en van deze zacht oranje quilt gaan we afscheid nemen. We kunnen de stof niet meer leveren en de winkel is wel groter, maar ruimte gebrek komt alweer om de hoek kijken.

Dat is ook de reden dat we voor het eerst balansopruiming houden tot 4 januari.

Tenslotte nog een paar sfeer foto's van Deventer's Walstraat met de buren en wij zelf in Dickens kostuums.

Lekker meanderen tijdens Dickens Festijn

Tijdens het Dickens festijn op 18 en 19 december kunt u weer lekker meanderen door de binnenstad van Deventer. Voor alle quilters is er binnen koffie of thee met Deventer koek.

De foto hiernaast is gemaakt door Petri Aygünes-Dermout. De winkel was toen nog in deplorabele staat. Voor de winkel op Walstraat 90 zitten mijn broer Henk en zijn dochters Merel en Iris. De kleding is gemaakt door Anne Veenendaal.

Een hardnekkig quilt probleem

Hoe vind je je naald terug als je tijdens het quilten halverwege een draad wil stoppen? Steeds op zoek naar je naald is echt niet nodig. Neem een stukje vilt in een opvallende kleur of een memo blaadje en zet dat met de quiltnaald vast op de plek waar je straks verder wil gaan.

En verder wil ik ook graag mijn nieuwe naaldenboekje laten zien. Het boekje is gemaakt van restje stof van een kleuterjurkje en een stuk geborduurd lakentjes katoen. Beide zaten jaren in de naaimand.
Waren gewoon te mooi om weg te doen.

Watercolor quilt met zwarte achtergrond

Het blijft leuk om te puzzelen met stukjes stof. Geinspireerd door de geweldige resultaten tijdens de workshop bij de deelneemsters met deze stoffen, kon ik het niet laten om er zelf een te schikken.

De stof met kleine aardbeien heeft het effect van gipskruid rond de bloemenkrans.

De quilt is gequilt met multi-color quiltgaren.

Schaatsen gezocht ..

Gisteravond een schaats en een drum gemaakt voor Tilda Santa. En zo ziet het er uit.

Echt geinig om te maken.

En die schaatsen horen dus bij deze Santa.

Vandaag zit Santa in de etalage en morgen inclusief schaatsen.

Tilda tasje borduren en soluvlies

Vanmorgen heb ik dit snoepige Tilda tasje van Tilda stof en wolvilt afgemaakt. Het borduurwerk is gedaan met rood Sashiko garen.
Voor het borduren van de roos is een sjabloon met Sewline pen gebruikt.

De achterkant, zie foto links, is gemaakt met Soluvlies in combinatie met de Sewline pen.

Na het borduren maak je het vlies nat en dan lost het vanzelf op.

De overeenkomst tussen Deventer tapijt en Kim McLean's Baltimore quilt

Soms kom je vlak achter elkaar iets heel moois tegen. Dan gaat het borrelen en tenslotte weet je wat je ermee wil.

Zo ging het ook met het prachtige tapijt in de Torenkamer in kasteel Ammersoyen, dat uit Deventer bleek te komen. Het deed mij denken aan de quilts en het kleurgebruik van Kaffe Fassett. Vervolgens zijn er drie klanten die binnen een maand vragen om stof om de quilt Hartjes en bloemen, Kim McLean, te maken uit Kaffe Fassett's Quilt Romantiek.

Het medaillon en de randen eromheen op de foto rechts hebben geleid tot het inplannen van de quiltcursussen Medaillon quilt en Baltimore quilt.

Beide cursussen duren 6 dagdelen en starten in januari 2011.

Het is vandaag weer een prachtige dag. Gewoon door kunnen rijden naar Naarden met helder weer.

Zaterdag was er een klant in de winkel die op zoek was naar opstrijkbare muslin. We hebben wel muslin en plakspray, niet helemaal wat de klant bedoelde, maar ze was er wel mee geholpen.

Op de foto hiernaast staat een regeltje uit 'Klimop, houvast gedichten' van Jelke Vrouw. Dit bundeltje is ooit uitgegeven via een stencilmachine in 1984.

Er staan meer voor stitchery geschikte teksten in.
Tijdens de workshop Stitchery in een dag op zaterdag 29 januari is het bundeltje beschikbaar voor de deelnemers aan de workshop.

Ben ik met de bies bezig van het Dolly quiltje van de volgende maand, zie ik ineens Brandon staan. 't Is maar een printje op de zelfkant.

En dan, dat knip je toch niet af zonder er een foto van te maken?

De hele Wagon Wheel quilt is wel 50 bij 50 cm en dus met recht een Dolly quilt.Op de tweede foto ziet u de stoffen zoals in het Wagon Wheel pakket zitten. Dat is vanaf volgende week leverbaar en te bestellen via: 100rozen.biedmeer.nl

De eerste Wagon Wheel workshop hebben we al gehad in de winkel en de resultaten zijn verbluffend. De volgende is in gepland op zaterdag middag 27 november.

Wat voor quilt zou je kunnen maken van linnen/katoen?

We hebben prachtige dunne half linnens binnen gekregen en nu worstel ik met de vraag, wat maak je daar dan van. Dus dit is eigenlijk een vraag aan de lezers.

Het zijn een aantal effen stoffen in naturel tinten, een aantal stoffen met stippen, drie bloemstoffen en twee stoffen met kleine motieven en ja ze doen wat Japans aan. Zoiets als het eerste en het derde tasje op het plaatje hiernaast.

Hoe bereken je de wig en de stof voor een wagenwiel?

Tijdens de workshop Sarah Fielkes Wagon Wheel kwam ter sprake hoe je de hoek van de wig berekent. Wiggen kan je ook zien als partjes, taartpunten, spaken. En een wagenwiel is een cirkel opgebouwd uit wiggen.

Het berekenen van de hoek van de wig
Stap 1 Bedenk hoeveel wiggen je wil hebben. Bijvoorbeeld 10, 12 of 24.
Stap 2 Voor een hele cirkel deel je 360 graden door het aantal wiggen. Respectievelijk 36, 30 en 15 graden.
Stap 3 Teken met een quiltliniaal/gradenboog de berekende hoek op paternoplaat.
Stap 4 De lange zijden van de wig maak je precies even lang, bijvoorbeeld 25, 30 of 35 cm.
Tip Maak de wig wat groter dan je de eerste keer nodig hebt. Je kunt met een grote wig ook kleine cirkels maken.
Stap 5 Verbind de lange zijden met een lijn en knip de mal uit.
Stap 6 Bepaal hoe groot je cirkel moet worden. De afstand van het midden tot de rand is de straal.
Stap 7 Neem een lap stof van 110 cm breed en zo hoog als de straal+3cm voor de naden. Of maak een lap van deze maat van stroken.

Stap 8 Leg de wig zo op de stof dat de onderkant van de wig evenwijdig ligt aan de breedte richting van de stof en dat de punt tot de bovenkant komt.

Stap 9 Teken de lijn van de onderkant van de stof op de wig. Dit is de lijn die je gaat helpen bij het snijden.

Stap 10 Snij de eerste wig. Draai de wig om en snij de tweede wig. Leg ze op elkaar om te kijken of ze hetzelfde zijn. Snij vervolgens de rest van de wiggen.

Ja dat doen we. We maken morgen tijdens de workshop Kerst met Sterren een tafelloper. Het betreft een workshop van 1 dag gebruik makend van de naaimachine.
De voorbeeld quilt is gemaakt door Dini, Magda en Jeltje. Deze quilt hing ook in de kraam tijdens de Leden Tentoonstelling van het Quiltersgilde in Deventer.

Ruth's Aussie quilt on my sofa

Hello to all family and friends. It is because of our family in Australia that I like to write in English since last blog.

Last friday my mum passed away. She was surrounded with her three kids and my husband Henk. It was a peacefull moment and o so quiet.

Today her Aussie quilt needs to be repaired. It was on her bed since 2005. The quilt is made of linnen with attick windows and applications of Ghanian fabric.
The applications are grouped Australian symbols:
Kangaroo, Mango and a tree to give them shelter.

In 2005 mum and I went to Australia on family tour for mum to say farewell. For me it was the first time to meet the other half of my family in Australia. Nieces and aunts who learned me about digital embrodery and about quilting fabrics you can sell in a quiltshop. Never heared of it before. So you can say this trip was the beginning of Quiltshop 100 rozen. Came back quilting in the plane.

The festival is over, giving the feet some rest ...

Thank you dear 100 rozen friends, you contributed to a great festival for all. Thank you ladies and gents for the ideas, packing, delivering, feeding, supporting, cutting and most of all laughing, talking and being happy to be a friend of 100 rozen.

Our special guest Antonia van Welderen from Brisbane, Australia told about the Sarah Fielke project at the front of the Quiltshop. To her surprise she had a lot of husbands during the day sitting at her table.
We welcome Sylvia with her helping hands and her bright ideas of color use.

Dini and her friends organized the Quilt route with quilts in the shops. Beautiful quilts shown in the center of the city. They brought 20 percent of the quilters to the Walstraat at saturday in total around 250 ladies and gents.

Also a thank you for Ineke and Jeanet for their support in folding more than 600 FQ's of all the new Christmas, Kaffes and rose fabrics.

Irene en Dini maakten de Dolly quilt voorbeelden die in de winkel hangen. De pakketten stof zijn gelijk aan de quiltjes die zij maakten.

Dini maakte van de restjes van een Dolly quilt ook nog twee paar pannelappen. Een set ligt in de keuken van het Open Atelier.

Heb je nog wel tijd om te surfen?

Nou eh, windsurfen doe ik allang niet meer en van andere sporten komt ook niet veel terecht. Quiltsurfen lukt nog best. Een quiltster gaf mij de tip om op zoek te gaan naar Color wash van Deidra Amsden. En zoals mij dat regelmatig overkomt met surfen vond ik wel een paar heel mooie dingen. onder andere een mooie toepassing voor de Wagon Wheels workshop.

Dat brengt mij bij de tweede vraag: 'Geven jullie ook les in werken met wedges?' Dat hebben we toen gelijk maar ingepland. De naam van de workshop is afgeleid van het Sarah Fielke quiltje Wagon Wheel waar ik net aan begonnen ben.

Zondag 24 oktober Workshop Wagon Wheel op één dag van 11.00 uur tot 15.00 uur.

Samenvatting Dolly quilt avond op woe 1 september

Tijdens de eerste dolly quilt avond is er gewerkt aan drie verschillende Dolly quilts namelijk:

* A bird in the hand : Uitleg over needle turn en het werken met vliesofix in combinatie met stof en batting.
* Wagon Wheels : Snijtechniek met wig vormige linialen.
* Er werd ook gewerkt aan de Dolly quilt voor maand 8, want het is wel van belang dat de voorbeelden op tijd in de winkel hangen.

Er is op de Dolly quilt avond geen groepsles. Ieder werkt aan de Dolly quilt waar zij aan toe is of hulp bij wil. We hanteren op deze avond meer het vrije school principe.

De eerst volgende avond is op woensdag 15 september vanaf 19:30 uur. Uw eerste bezoek aan het Dolly quilt programma is gratis.
Daarna betaalt u het Open Atelier tarief van 7 euro per keer of een 10 dagdelen kaart a 45 euro.

Wat gebeurt er in het Atelier?

Het is zaterdagmiddag en in de winkel is het druk. Erg veel mensen willen graag achterin de winkel kijken. Er is de workshop Watercolor aan de gang. Inmiddels is deze workshop nu voor de vierde keer dit najaar ingepland.

Er zijn nog enkele plaatsen beschikbaar op zaterdag 2 oktober. Zie http://www.quiltshop100rozen.nl/.

De foto's zijn van quilttops die afgelopen zaterdag gemaakt zijn. De hardroze met violet/paarse top is echt een zeer verrassende en heel nieuwe kleurcombinatie.

Het leuke is dat ieder echt met de eigen kleren werkt en vaak met ook wat meer kleur en lef dan anders. De resultaten zijn echt prachtig.

De tweede top is opgebouwd uit prachtige pastels met hier en daar wat fuchsia. Door de kleine witte vlekjes in de Kaffe Fassett stof die hierin verwerkt is blijft de quilt lichtvoetig.

De derde top gebaseerd op de ovale vorm heeft een twist. Dit wordt een quilt met karakter. De combinatie van tere Lecien rozen met de wat herfstige kleuren van de Philip Jacobs stof vormen een mooie combinatie.

En het leuk is dat alle drie de tops qua ontwerp klaar zijn en gestreken. Ook de randen zijn gezamenlijk uitgezocht.

Het werk ook lekker in een nieuwe ruime atelier.

Wanneer is de eeste Dolly quilt avond?

A.s. woensdagavond is de eerste Dolly quilt avond van 19:30 uur tot 21:30 in het Atelier van Quiltshop 100 rozen, walstraat 90, Deventer.

Het idee is dat we ervaringen en kennis delen en er gewoon een gezellige avond van maken.

We vinden het heel leuk als u ook mee doet. Neemt u de Dolly quilt waarmee u bezig bent mee?

We verkopen de laatste tijd veel batting en achterkant stof. Er worden duidelijk veel UFO's afgemaakt. Nu zijn achterkanten nog wel eens een beetje saai of je komt niet zo goed uit met de stof.

Hiernaast zie je een voorbeeld van een achterkant waarbij gespeeld is met gestreepte stof.

Rozen quilt met Japanse puzzel?

Het quilten in het Open atelier

Erg makkelijk is de Japanse puzzel niet. Je blijft schuiven met de blokken. Op de foto hiernaast was de compositie nog niet je dat. Eind van de middag ging het er op lijken. We verwachten dat het toch een mooie quilt wordt. Hij mag pas in elkaar als we tevreden zijn met de compositie.
We zijn overigens wel erg blij met de door Henk en Roel ontworpen designborden. Ze werken prettig en zijn makkelijk te verplaatsen.

Het bouwen aan Walstraat 88/90
Gisteren was er naast veel regen ook nogal wat lawaai van boven. Er werd stevig gestuckt. De woonkamer is bijna klaar. En als het cursus- en workshopseizoen in september begint is de grote verbouwing achter de rug en keert de rust weer op nummer 88 en 90.

Een dame maakte de S-Block variant en vroeg hoe ze nu verder moest met de randen de bies en de achterkant. Goede vraag. We hoefden niet lang te puzzelen om de juiste stoffen erbij te vinden.

De klantvraag
Is quiltstof geschikt voor theedoeken? Er waren wat twijfels. Dus wat is er gebeurd? Er zijn twee theedoeken gemaakt en opgestuurd aan de vragenstelster. Over een maand weten we of het werkt qua drogen, wassen en of ze mooi genoeg blijven.

Het quilten
En vandaag is ook het doopkleedje opgeleverd. Wat een schoonheid is dat geworden.

Het quiltje komt op de foto niet echt tot z'n recht. Hopelijk ontvangen we een betere foto van het kleedje met baby.

Zijn quiltstoffen 100% katoen en geschikt als theedoek? Je moet er maar opkomen om er theedoeken van te willen maken. Onze quiltstoffen zijn inderdaad 100% katoen. Voor theedoeken zijn de Tilda stoffen iets meer geschikt, omdat ze wat dikker zijn.

Een alternatief is een linnen/katoen stof met een rand van quiltstof er op. We gaan dat zeker uitproberen in de keuken bij de winkel, want zo nieuwsgierig zijn we wel.

Het bouwen aan Walstraat 88/90
Vanmorgen ging het over de verwarming van het pand. Waar komen de radiatoren en hoeveel. Zijn er alternatieven? We hebben gekozen om bij de ramen elektrische vloerverwarming (tot +8 graden) te leggen om de kou er uit te houden en twee staande radiatoren in het hart van de kamer. En natuurlijk niet te zware goed isolerende gordijnen.
Het pand zal nooit in dit rijtje duurzame gebouwen komen, maar we proberen het wel zo verstandig mogelijk te doen met betrekking tot duurzaamheid.

Sinds de nieuwe winkel vragen bezoekers bijna dagelijks of Quiltshop 100 rozen opdrachten aanneemt. De vragen zijn verrassend en het antwoord is ja. Deze week zijn twee opdrachten afgerond. Een Hot Diamonds, zie de volgende foto's.

De tweede opdracht is een Tilda kussentje in groen met vogeltjes.

Vandaag hebben we een nieuwe opdracht aangenomen. Het resultaat gaan we hier zeker tonen.

Staan jullie ook als standhouder in de Grote kerk tijdens de Tentoonstelling van Het Quilters Gilde? Vrijdag zaterdag en zondag zijn we in de winkel. En maandag, dinsdag en woensdag zijn we standhouder en is ook de winkel geopend.
Het quiltenNog 3,5 meter biezen zomen en dan kunnen er twee opdrachten opgeleverd worden.

Het Tilda kussentje is af op het vast zetten van de bies na. En Magda heeft de top van de Kaffe Fassett Hot Diamond quilt bijna in elkaar.
Het bouwen aan Walstraat 88/90..En de schuur is gearriveerd vandaag. Ben erg benieuwd hoe het er vanavond achter de winkel uit ziet.

Dat kun je wel zeggen. Het is nu vrijdag en de eerste dag dat lijf en hoofd weer een beetje normaal voelen, voor zover dat mogelijk is. Gisteravond weer aan twee quilt opdrachten gewerkt en administratief is alles ook weer op orde. Er moet nog een ding deze week en dat is de BTW aangifte.
Dus we kunnen weer over de rand heen kijken. En dat doet mij denken aan Kaffe die over een quilt heen kijkt tijdens de lezing. Ik kan alleen de foto ervan nu even niet vinden.

Te weinig Kaffe Fassett stof, is die dan nog na te bestellen?

Oeps, is je Kaffe Fassett quilt toch groter geworden dan je bedacht had ... en met de stof voor de rand kom je niet uit. Hoe groot is de kans dat de stof nog leverbaar is?
Dat is ongeveer de moeilijkst te beantwoorden vraag die bij Quiltshop 100 rozen gesteld wordt.

Het zit zo in elkaar: Als de stof binnen een maand te leveren is via de groothandel, is er niets aan de hand. Is de stof niet op voorraad bij de leverancier, dan worden alle aanvragen voor de stof verzameld tot er voldoende vraag is voor een herdruk. En als er over de hele wereld voldoende vraag is, duurt het vervolgens 3 tot 12 maanden voor de stof geleverd wordt.

We hebben dus te maken met een schaars artikel. Zo wachten we op een aantal cruciale stoffen voor quilts, waarvan we pakketten willen maken. Naar aanleiding van het Kaffe Fassett Evenement in Deventer van 24 tot 26 juli krijgen we de laatste tijd nogal eens een vraag over de voornaam van Kaffe Fassett.

Hoe dat precies zit doet Kaffe (uitgesproken als Keef) in zijn video uitgebreid uit de doeken. Filmpje van Kaffe bekijken.

Wie heeft er een rood wollen draadje?

Gisteren begonnen aan een huisje voor Magda, want die is donderdag jarig. Alleen als je op een recreatiepark (Uddelermeer) zit, dan grijp je soms mis.
Dus Magda moet het doen met alleen roze wollen draadjes. Laat dat nou net niet haar favoriete kleur zijn.

Het huisje schiet al aardig op. Er zit ook nog wat geborduurde tekst bij. Die wordt door Emmy gemaakt en dan kunnen we daarna de hele boel in elkaar zetten. Lukt wel hoor voor donderdag.

Waar oud en nieuw elkaar raakt, gebeuren soms mooie dingen. Na 25 jaar in de ICT en inmiddels een beetje uitgekeken op beeldschermwerk komt mijn dochter Emmy met een wel heel fraai voorbeeld van digitaal handwerken. Borduren, vilt, ritsen, knoopjes en nog veel meer vormen een schitterend filmpje op internet. Gewoon even zelf kijken, want beter is dit niet uit te leggen.

Heeft Quiltshop 100 rozen een toilet op de begane grond?

In de oude winkel was geen ruimte voor een toilet beneden. Dat was een groot minpunt naast de te krappe ruimte voor de workshops. Voor de nieuwe winkel is een toilet gepland achter de huidige achtergevel.

De tuin is 12 meter diep dus er is ruimte genoeg voor een uitbouw.

Zitten we alleen nog met de financiering en de vergunning. Het pand Walstraat 88/90 valt onder beschermd stadsgezicht en dus is er voor alles aan de buitenkant een vergunning nodig. Voorlopig gaan we het oplossen met een tijdelijke bebouwing, zodat de deelnemers aan de workshops in september geen belemmering ondervinden.

Doen jullie ook regiodagen?

Vandaag kwam Mieke uit Den Dolder langs in de nieuwe winkel. Of we ook weleens naar regiodagen gaan? Ja hoor en met veel plezier.
Zo waren we twee keer in Landsmeer en een keer in Elden. De eerste keer werd het maantasje naar een patroon van Lies Bos gemaakt en de tweede keer gingen 100 dames aan de slag met QuiltSmart en gebloemde blokjes van vijf bij vijf. Het Dorpshuis in Landsmeer heeft twee biljarts en die lagen beiden vol met stoffen, boeken, batting en alle andere zaken die gebruikt worden bij het quilten.

De vraag Hoe ver is het lopen vanaf het station? kwam vandaag binnen via de e-mail.

Vanaf het NS station naar de winkel is het 7 tot 10 minuten lopen

Vanaf het NS station naar het IJsselhotel is het ongeveer 12 minuten lopen. U loopt eerst richting de Grote of Lebuinuskerk. Dat is de kerk waar in 2005, 2007 en 2010 de Algemene Tentoonstelling van het Quiltersgilde was/is. Vervolgens loopt u naar de Nieuwe markt achter de kerk. Hiervandaan kunt u de IJssel zien en bent u al bijna bij het pontje. Na het pontje staat u recht voor het IJsselhotel.

Vanaf het pontje naar de winkel is het 15 minuten lopen.

Gisteren was het even erg druk in de winkel. Henk in zijn overall met een dame in Canada aan de telefoon voor een boeking voor de lezing van Kaffe Fassett. Vier klanten in de winkel en hoog bezoek van de groothandel met de managing director van Rowan fabrics.

En dan gewoon stukjes stof snijden, praatje maken en afrekenen, want klanten gaan voor bij 100 rozen.

's Middags aan de CHINTZ quilt gewerkt. En 's avonds voor het eerst na de vakantie weer de rust gevonden om een paar draadjes te quilten.
